When it comes to being a healthy parent there is a small focus on what we are eating. This doesn’t mean we all need to be on restrictive diets, only eating organic produce or going fully vegan but it does mean we should be more mindful when it comes to making food choices. For example you could reduce the takeaways, especially when you can make something similar that is just as nice, if not nicer, at home for a fraction of the cost, and a fraction of the calories. If your takeaway of choice is a good curry then let us introduce you to Aagrah Tarka Pastes.
Aagrah Foods
Aagrah Foods is the home of the Tarka Cooking Paste range which originated from their well known Aagrah restaurant group in Bradford. These pastes allow you to create scrumptious Kashmiri “home-style” dishes in your own kitchen. They have lots of different flavours available but their newest one is the Butter Chicken Tarka Paste which is a first for supermarkets as it is suitable for both vegans and vegetarians, making a traditionally rich, indulgent classic sauce accessible to plant-based eaters for the first time.
Butter chicken is typically associated with cream, butter and meat, ingredients that put it off-limits for many. Aagrah’s plant-based tarka paste changes that, delivering the familiar spiced tomato flavour while allowing home cooks to add dairy alternatives such as vegan or coconut cream without compromising on taste.
Unlike a ready-made curry sauce, which is simply heated and served, a tarka paste is the foundation of a great curry. Made with slow-cooked onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger and carefully balanced spices, Aagrah’s paste allows home cooks to build flavour their way.
Our Review of the Aagrah Tarka Pastes
We were sent three of the Aargrah Tarka pastes to review and for a family that loves a good curry we were excited to try them.
The first thing we noticed was that unlike typical jar sauces, Aagrah’s products come in much smaller jars but can still easily feed the whole family as they are concentrated pastes that act as a cooking base as opposed to a finished curry sauce. This means that they are perfect for those that love to cook as you can get experimental knowing you already have the foundations for a great meal but you can personalise in with extra veg, a bit more heat or make it extra creamy.
We also loved the bright colours of the labels on the jars as it made them seem really fun and exciting.
When it came to cooking with them we found them very easy to use and found them to be really versatile. We used the to make both you standard curry sauce with meet and vegetables served over rice as well as making a rice and veg dish with a dryer consistency. Both ere absolutely delicious and filled the house with the most incredible aromas.
Not only are the Aargrah Tarka Pastes easy to use, versatile and delicious but they are also good value for money priced at £3.75 for a 270g jar. You can but them in most supermarkets or if you prefer online shopping then head to the Aargrah Foods website and order direct from there.
