Here at The Healthy Parent we are very keen on screen free fun. That’s not to say we don’t use screens from time to time but we do prefer to encourage role play activities, arts and craft sessions and outside activities where possible, there’s plenty of time to be sat in front of a screen when they are older! On our quest to discover some screen free alternatives we were introduced to the Yoto players and asked if we would like to try one and also offer one lucky the winner the chance to win an incredible Yoto bundle too, so of course we agreed immediately.

What is Yoto?

Yoto is a screen-free audio player for kids aged 3-12, designed to inspire learning, imagination, and endless adventure year after year, simply insert the Yoto card and listen. You can choose from over 1200 audio titles that play stories, music, meditations, podcasts and creative activities with something for all ages and interests including the whole Harry Potter series that has just been added this year.

Yoto also do a mini version too which is perfect for taking with you on your travels so that your child never gets bored.

Our review of the Yoto

We absolutely love the Yoto Player (3rd generataion). It was so easy to set up and inserting and changing the cards is also that easy that our five year old can do it by herself which is great as it mean she has been able to listen to the stories and music that she has wanted to whilst playing in her room and then just change them independently as she wishes.

We were sent a selection of the Yoto cards to try and I was blown away by the variety on offer. We have sampled a really good mixture including Barbie, Disney and 5 minute girl power stories and what I love most was that we could pick stories we are already familiar with and love but also new ones that we haven’t heard before but that still feature familiar characters in so we know they will keep her engaged.

We were also amazed to find that the Yoto Player also comes with an okay to wake night light and lock which is perfect for helping her learn to tell the time on a digital display without it feeling like a lesson.

If you are looking for a gift for a child of around 5 then we can highly recommend the Yoto Player as our daughter loves it but I can also see that this would be great for older children too, especially those that love stories but perhaps don’t love reading themselves or are still gaining their confidence but at the same time don’t really want to be read to by their parents anymore as this allows the to soak up the adventures and lose themselves in their imaginations without the stress of reading.
